Disney Comics The Rock Show Controversy of The Iliad Regia

MARCH 25, 2011

By Jorge Tovalín

few months ago, the bazaar known as sabatino Comics Rock Show woke some discomfort among visitors as it began to charge admission to the place. Obviously, no one was amused to pay to get to a place that once offered their services for free. Negative comments and unfounded criticism did not wait.

Today we knew that soon the Comics Rock Show will raise the price of your ticket, which had remained in symbolic five pesos, ten pesos per visit. That is why we wrote to Lilia Contreras , an authority in this bazaar, to explain our concerns about this type of collection. Shortly thereafter, we received a call from Samuel Shapiro , head of the project, who kindly took the time to talk with us.

Shapiro , founder of the rock band Glass & Steel , told us that contrary to popular belief, the Cultural Center Miguel Sabido (which houses the Comics Rock Show and other recreational activities) is a space private , ie not belongs to the government or receive any support from the Secretariat of Culture of the Federal District or another instance.

Founded by writer Miguel Sabido and sisters, this cultural center has been directed by Samuel Shapiro , nephew of Sabido, from about twelve years .

According Shapiro told us, the Comics Rock Show born during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as a project that aimed mainly employment generation and creating a meeting point for fans to collecting comics, toys, movies and the like.

Why charge admission?

The Cultural Center Miguel Sabido have to pay salaries to its employees, and meet with a number of expenses, as any establishment. However, compliance with safety standards have risen incredibly accounts pay, said Shapiro.

Thus, the authorities' request for the construction of ramps , conducting decibel tests , installing a seismic alarm (at a cost of between 14 and 18 thousand dollars), the compulsory recruitment of paramedic for all events held in place (400 pesos per day) as well as ongoing expenses for Cleaning of external boxes (unfortunately used by street vendors as a public bath) are bordered to charge admission to the famous bazaar of comics. Only the electricity bill reached 14 000 pesos in the final survey, we talked the musician.

"Go or no go?

Shapiro noted that in contrast to events like The Mole or TNT , which charge an average of 60 pesos input and higher income to 8 thousand dollars who want to place a stand, the Comics Rock Show charged only 10 pesos, renting out its facilities to a much lower price: "With what they pay for a booth at these conventions, here are enough to be nine months " stressed (we can assume then that daily rent to the tenants of CRS round the 300 pesos, a price quite modest).

Before leaving us, Shapiro said he hopes to have the understanding and support of visitors, because without this symbolic collection by the permanence of Comics Rock Show could be seriously threatened, and expressed hope that this information be shared with customers in the busy bazaar.

We leave an additional note on the origin of Cultural Center Miguel Sabido , which can be very useful to form an opinion on this topic ; http://m.elmanana.com.mx/notas.asp?id=197889 .
